Ditch Pelican Neck with a Neck Lift in NYC

POSTED ON TUESDAY, AUGUST 14, 2012 AT 2:23 PM by Dr. Darrick Antell

Neck lift surgery

Commonly referred to as, “pelican neck,” this dropping skin can make you appear to have a double chin and add years to your appearance. New York Plastic Surgeon, Dr. Darrick Antell, can remove this loose skin under your chin, with what he likes to call a “wattlectomy.” Before you consider yourself of the pelicanidae species, consider the procedure that can give you a fresh, younger look!

“Wattlectomy” uses direct excision to cut away fatty tissue. Performed under a local anesthesia with mild sedation, this procedure takes about an hour to perform. Afterwards, sutures remain in place for about a week, but you can return to work within two days, confident with the sleek contour of your new neckline!

Learn more about traditional neck lift in NYC

This procedure gives excellent results by removing hanging skin under the chin, offering a better  outcome than a traditional neck lift in NYC.  With the wattlectomy, a “Z” plasty is placed approximately at the incision’s midpoint, helping to disguise the scar, which though permanent, fades over time.  Even better, costs of the procedure run less than a traditional neck lift. For an additional fee, a patient can add other procedures at the same time, such as eyelid surgery in NY, or chin implants in NY for a more complete facial rejuvenation.

If you’re tired of wasting time at the gym working on your pelican neck without achieving visible results, give our office a call at 212.988.4040, or request an appointment online. Dr. Antell and his staff look forward to answering any questions you may have.

Surgery-Free, Sexy Summer Skin with Juvederm & Botox in NYC

POSTED ON WEDNESDAY, JULY 25, 2012 AT 2:40 PM by Dr. Darrick Antell

Juvederm and Botox

Summer is here once again, which means time to hit the beach and show off some confident skin. If you are insecure with your skin you don’t have to hide inside during the beautiful summer days any longer. Stop lending your trust to expensive creams that only offer minimal change. With Dr. Darrick Antell’s non-invasive treatments, you can look younger, without going under the knife.

If those deep wrinkles are preventing you from enjoying your time at the beach, consider JUVEDERM® in NYC. JUVEDERM® in NYC is an injectable gel made of Hyaluronic Acid used to correct facial lines and wrinkles. Hyaluronic Acid, a natural sugar that retains water, is found in all living organisms, making it perfectly safe and biocompatible. JUVEDERM® utilizes crossed linked gel, resulting in a natural, smoother, longer lasting look. Pump up the volume, and your confidence, by adding life to your drooping facial folds and wrinkles!

If the winter blues have left you with deep frown lines, consider BOTOX® Cosmetic in NY. Stop covering up those wrinkles with make-up that will just wash off in the pool and run into fine lines, making you appear older. BOTOX®, a diluted and purified bacterium that works to relax neurotoxins in the skin, works best on the upper third of the face, on frown lines between the eyes, crow’s feet, and horizontal lines in the forehead. Get your treatments in before the sun does any more damage to your skin. Skin shows signs of aging from sun-exposure, laughing, squinting, and even smiling; creating deep-set wrinkles, but there is no reason why that should stop you from looking your best this summer.

Rediscover your youth with these safe, healthy treatments during this Summer of Non-Invasive Treatments! Dr. Darrick Antell M.D, F.A.C.S and his staff welcome any questions or concerns you may have, and would love to go over treatment options that meet your needs, be it JUVEDERM® in NYC or BOTOX® Cosmetic in NY. Contact his office at 212.988.4040 or request an appointment online to schedule your personal consultation. Why wait any longer?

Beauty Secrets of a Plastic Surgeon

As the summer sun shines longer and hotter every day, so do its damaging rays. Not only do the sun’s harmful rays age your skin’s appearance, but they also increase your risk to develop skin cancer. If the worst happens, & you find yourself diagnosed with skin cancer, trust the plastic surgeon who doesn’t hold back on honesty, Dr. Darrick Antell. Dr. Antell knows that with skin cancer, comes a lot of uncertainty and questions. When not performing plastic surgery in NY, Dr. Antell is helping patients better understand their recovery options, & in doing so, has recently published his own candid piece entitled,“Secrets of a Plastic Surgeon: Saving Face After Skin Cancer."

When skin cancer strikes, “it is always better to undergo treatment before the cancer grows larger,” explains Antell. Being diagnosed with skin cancer may not be the easiest diagnosis to grasp, but when treated at the first signs, can increase the chance of a successful recover. Many times, a dermatologist will work with a plastic surgeon in New York City to remove the cancerous cells, and aid in scar revision surgery. “Teamwork is the cornerstone to good medicine,” says Antell.  That type of attitude not only brings hope to patients, but also provides a feeling of security that they are in the right hands.

After skin cancer removal, patients have three recovery options; one of which is a natural recovery. “Sometimes the best plastic surgery NYC is the one you don’t perform,” says Antell.  Smaller wounds may heal on their own, but when patients are left with a bigger wound, they can opt for skin grafts, or skin flaps. Both skin grafts and flaps use tissue from another area of the body, but unlike skin grafting, skin flaps utilize underlying fat and muscle.

Dr. Antell and his staff are always open to any questions or concerns you may have regarding skin cancer treatments in NY. Feel free to request an appointment online, or call our office at 212.988.4040.

Remove Mohs Scars with Scar Revision in NYC

Scar revision

With summer upon us, getting caught up in the rush of heat and soaking up the sun’s rays can be easy. As school lets out and awaited vacations to the beach take place, reapplying that SPF may take a backseat to more pressing and enjoyable summer activities.  After riding some waves and making sure Jimmy’s ice cream doesn’t fall in the sand, many of us forget that it is time to lather back up. Unfortunately, the sun can be both a best friend and enemy. According to the National Cancer Institute, 76,250 men and women will be diagnosed with Melanoma, the most serious type of skin cancer, this year alone. If that’s not enough to get you running for the sunblock, think about this: every hour, one person dies from Melanoma.

The most common type of skin cancer, Basal Cell Carcinoma (BCC) disrupts the lives of 2.8 million Americans annually. Though the least alarming of the skin cancers, it can easily spread if left untreated. With Mohs Surgery, skin cancer can be readily removed, however, an unsightly scar can be left behind, blemishing once beautiful skin. Depending on how your body heals may determine the extent of your scar. Patients can have Post Mohs Reconstructive Surgery, however, to further remove the scar, patients may want to consider Scar Revision Surgery in NYC. There are many types of scar revision options, including the injection of certain steroid medication, leaving patients with little to no scar. Dr. Antell would be more than happy to discuss these options with you.

Taking the right steps in recognizing skin cancer is important. Do you have any moles, sores, or patches on your skin? These could be the early signs of skin cancer, sending you an alert. A good technique to judge an apprehensive marking is the ABCD method developed by the American Cancer Society. Is the lesion Asymmetrical or uneven? Is the Border rigged rather than smooth? Is the Color uneven, or has the shape of the mark changed in Diameter? These are all warning signs that you should see your plastic surgeon to get them examined and removed.

Hearing the word, “Cancer,” can be scary, but Dr. Antell works to alleviate any concerns to make your recovery from Skin Cancer smoother.  Dr. Darrick Antell, M.D., F.A.C.S. understands that nobody wants to be diagnosed with skin cancer. In addition, no one wants to be left with a dreaded scar from treatment.  Through Scar Revision/Scar Removal in NYC signs of treatments from skin cancer can be diminished. Dr. Antell and his staff would be more than happy to discuss Scar Revision Surgery in NYC with you. Schedule an appointment online or call 212.988.4040 to get started today!

Look Visibly Younger with Eyelid Surgery in NYC

POSTED ON THURSDAY, JUNE 21, 2012 AT 4:48 PM by Dr. Darrick Antell

Eyelid surgery

Eyes are an important aspect of social interaction in our culture. Besides giving us the sense of sight, eyes are often regarded as windows to the soul. We can drown in a person’s eyes, melt from their glance, feel shunned or shamed by their absence, and embarrassed when they accidentally meet. We show our friends, family, coworkers, and acquaintances that we are listening and interested in what they have to say by looking into their eyes. Eyes obviously receive a lot of social attention and give emotional cues to others. With age and over exposure to the harmful rays of the sun, however, the delicate skin around our eyes may begin to sag, puff, or darken. Not only is this cosmetically unappealing, but it may also be giving the wrong social cues. Puffy and darkened lower eyelids may cause you to appear tired when you actually feel energetic. Sagging upper eyelids may make you appear aged when you actually feel young. Dr. Darrick Antell offers blepharoplasty in New York (eyelid surgery) to eliminate the sagging and freshen your expression.

Blepharoplasty in NY is an outpatient procedure that can improve many aspects of your eyelids, including their aesthetic appearance, facial expression, and field of vision. Drooping and sagging upper eyelids may physically limit your field of vision. Blepharoplasty in NYC can open your field of vision by removing drooping, excess skin. Oftentimes, puffy lower eyelids can express feelings of exhaustion, but blepharoplasty in New York will surgically smooth your eyelid, so it curves smoothly into the cheek. During the procedure, Dr. Antell uses Twilight sedation and local anesthesia.  He will remove excess skin and fat from the eyelid using an incision over the eyelids’ natural folds, so they are inconspicuous. Incisions during lower eyelid surgery can be performed inside the eyelid, producing an invisible scar.
