The National Museum of Natural History at the Smithsonian Institute recently hosted an exhibit called, “The Human Genome”, celebrating the 10th anniversary of the completion of the Human Genome. There visitors could delve into the microscopic world of genetics that defines the human race. In particular, they learned about the concept that genetics doesn’t necessarily take control over the aging process, a dreadful prospect that we sometimes don’t look forward to in such a mortal world. Instead, genetics shares the spotlight with the effects of the environment and lifestyle choices on the aging process. This groundbreaking discovery is the result of Dr. Darrick E. Antell’s study on identical twins and aging.
After studying numerous identical twins, Dr. Antell verified his findings and concluded that environmental factors and lifestyle choices—specifically smoking, excess sun, and stress (the 3 “S”s) can accelerate the aging process independently of genetic influences. The effects of the 3 “S”s can be seen in photos of identical twins. From first glance, one might think they were photos of before-and-after shots of patients who had facelift procedures performed, but in reality they are identical twins. One twin, for example, would be a nudist who basked in the sun, while her other half stayed indoors most of the time. Take that genetics! We can be hopeful again in slowing down the clock and taking a few matters in our own hands and taking better care of ourselves by not smoking, wearing sunscreen, and finding ways to distress from the evermore pressuring society around us.
The Office of Dr. Darrick E. Antell was thrilled to hear Dr. Antell’s research being featured at the Smithsonian, and were even more excited to hear from the museum staff that Dr. Antell could possibly be the only plastic surgeon to have his work featured at the prestigious institute. Way to go Dr. Antell!

When opting for plastic surgery in New York, many of us find ourselves deep in research trying to determine for ourselves which procedure will be suitable for our needs. Without the proper information however, facts can become mixed with falsehoods. Board certified plastic surgeon in NYC, and Clinical Professor of Surgery at Columbia University, Dr. Darrick Antell has continuously geared his efforts towards helping patients understand their options when it comes to plastic surgery, as well as how to choose the best plastic surgeon in NYC. He continues his dedication in his field by keeping up with the latest techniques and by performing his own original research studies. Dr. Darrick Antell is perhaps best known for his ground breaking research of twins plastic surgery in New York.
World renowned for his studies of aging in identical twins, Dr. Antell’s initial inspiration to study twins came when a patient asked, “How long will my facelift last?” Dr. Antell explained that if she had an identical twin who did not have a facelift, the patient would always look visibly younger than her twin. With this analogy, Dr. Antell went on to question which lifestyle choices could visibly contribute & ultimately accelerate the aging process. Since then, he has performed various studies comparing the effects of sun, smoking, and stress on facial aging in identical twins.
Recently, to further clarify and enhance his research on twins plastic surgery in New York, Dr. Antell focused on evaluating the results of two different facelift techniques, the traditional full incision and the short-scar facelift. Dr. Antell has most recently presented the findings of this study entitled, “Comparison of the Short and Full Incision Facelift on 4 Sets of Identical Twins & 1 Set of Identical Triplets,” at the American Society of Plastic Surgeons meeting in New Orleans this past October. At this meeting, Dr. Antell discussed the differences between the long-term results of these two facelift techniques at one and five years after the surgery date.
In addition to the long awaited similarities and differences between the short scar facelift in New York City and full incision facelift, Dr. Antell stressed the importance of selecting a board certified plastic surgeon. Choosing a board certified plastic surgeon assures that your doctor is qualified to perform surgery. Board certification means your surgeon displays the training, experience, and safety knowledge that is crucial for patients to consider when choosing their doctor.
With over twenty years of experience in plastic surgery in New York, Dr. Antell continues to make major headlines around the globe. His honesty and experience have earned him the trust of his patients and has made him an authority in his field. His work has been published in numerous media outlets, including Good Morning America, The Today Show, The Los Angeles Times, People magazine, Allure magazine, Vogue magazine, and Elle magazine. It’s not too late to invigorate your looks for the upcoming holiday season! Improve your most visible signs of aging with a mini facelift in New York City. Wake up your outer youth and surprise family, friends, and even yourself with the help of board certified plastic surgeon in NYC, Dr. Darrick Antell. With more than 20 years of experience, Dr. Antell has helped patients turn back the clock and reintroduce them to a youthful glow.
The mini facelift, also known as the short scar facelift, is particularly valuable for patients in their 40’s and 50’s who want to prolong the signs of aging. The ideal candidate does not have a severe amount of excess skin around their jawline and neck and shows aging predominately in the mid-face.
Compared to the traditional facelift, the mini facelift is a minimally invasive procedure that provides facial rejuvenation with a less noticeable scar. Through a small incision behind the ear, Dr. Antell performs the short scar facelift by tightening the underlying muscles and pulling back the skin of the mid-face. This process smoothes wrinkles and lifts any sagging facial folds. In addition, because the incision is made discretely, the healing site is easily hidden or covered so others will only notice a younger looking you. This scar is not only small, but it will also fade over time.

A Mini facelift is an outpatient procedure, performed under local anesthesia and a sedative. It is often combined with neck liposuction, or chin implants in New York. By combining the mini facelift with neck liposuction, patients can eliminate any jowls or loose neck fat. This procedure ultimately tightens the jawline for a firmer, sculpted look. Furthermore, many patients find that facial and chin implants can help balance and enhance facial features for a fully restored overall appearance.
At the office of Dr. Antell, we welcome patients to our facility for the rejuvenation they need to wow family members for the upcoming holiday seasons. Give yourself a little something extra to celebrate, and talk to Dr. Antell to see if a mini-facelift is right for you! After enduring the rain of spring, flowers and newly sprung growth flourish under the warmth of the summer sun. We often feel the rejuvenating effects of the sun as well, from brighter clothing, less footwear, and cheerier attitudes, to the freedom of vacations and outdoor activities. As another season passes, however, our faces appear more haggard as we age. Skin that used to curve gracefully over our neck now sags, and the defining contours of our cheeks and jawline have blurred. Fortunately, Dr. Darrick Antell offers facelift in New York to restore the youth to our appearance, so as next season emerges, you can look as rejuvenated and reborn as this year’s spring foliage.
Dr. Darrick Antell is a board certified plastic and reconstructive surgeon who believes in the subtle, natural-looking enhancement of his patient’s beauty. According to Dr. Antell, “Plastic surgery should whisper, not scream.” The goal of receiving a facelift in NY isn’t to completely alter one’s appearance but rather to tighten specific features of the skin which have begun to sag and lift underlying muscles and tissue into a more youthful position. Your face will still look like you, except cleaner and younger. Although Dr. Antell cannot stop the aging process completely, a facelift in NYC will set the clock back years, giving your face a fresh start.
During facelift in New York City, Dr. Antell will use “twilight,” anesthesia, so patients feel as if they are falling asleep naturally while they remain unaware of the entire procedure. This does NOT require general anesthesia. Using Dr. Antell’s rapid recovery techniques, people typically return to an office job in 10 to 12 days. Out of town patients typically leave in 7 to 10 days and can fly on an airplane. You will appear younger, fresher, more alert, and livelier than you’ve looked in many years after facelift in NY.

The most romantic night of the year is creeping just around the weekend. Boxes of chocolate, roses, and cards are frantically being bought by people who procrastinated and impending getaways are being anticipated by people who didn’t, but one thing most couples have in common whether they procrastinated or not, assuming they didn’t forget about Valentine’s Day completely, is that the night will either begin, or at the very least end, with a kiss. As the years pass, facial skin begins to sag, and you may not feel as confident as you once did while leaning in close for the Valentine’s Day kiss. The contours and angles of facial features begin to sag, facial muscles loosen, and cheeks sallow, giving your expression a tired, aged appearance that you may not actually feel. Consider facelift in New York City with Darrick E. Antell, M.D., F.A.C.S.to give your face the rejuvenation and yourself the confidence to enjoy your Valentine’s Day kisses every year.
Darrick E. Antell, M.D., F.A.C.S. offers facelift in NYC for patients who would like to reduce the appearance of facial aging. Facelift in New York will tighten sagging muscles, remove excess fat and sagging skin, reposition underlying tissues, and give your face a rejuvenated, younger-looking appearance. Every face is unique, and aging effects everyone’s face differently, therefore the exact methods, techniques, and combination of procedures could vary patient to patient. Some patients choose to combine facelift in NY with other procedures, such as chin implants in NYC, facial implants in NY, or facial liposuction in New York to achieve overall facial rejuvenation. Dr. Darrick E. Antell will discuss the options available to each patient during their personal consultation. Facelift in New York City usually takes several hours, unless additional procedures are added. Most patients will only need local anesthesia combined with intravenous sedation similar to a colonoscopy. This is also called “twilight sleep.” During facelift in NYC, patients will breathe on their own, but they will be relaxed and not aware of anything due to the “twilight sleep”. At the end of the procedure, long acting local anesthesia is administered to the area, making the affected area of the face completely numb for many hours. In this way, Dr. Antell can ensure that patients are as comfortable as possible throughout the recovery period. Most people will only take Tylenol in order to moderate pain after surgery.
After your facelift in NY, your face may swell or bruise, but patients typically return to work ten days to two weeks following surgery. Incisions from facelift in NYC are meticulously sutured and can be hidden until they fade. Once healed, scars will be inconspicuous. Facelift in New York City won’t stop the aging process, but it can rewind it back a few years. Patients should aim for improvement, not perfection, in their appearance after facelift in NY.
In addition to giving your love and gifts this Valentine’s Day, consider a little something for yourself, facelift in New York, so when your love leans in close next Valentine’s Day, meet them halfway, confident in your skin. Darrick E. Antell M.D., F.A.C. S. and his staff encourage patients to voice any questions or concerns you may have about facelift in NYC. With over 25 years of experience, Dr. Antell and his staff are known for this particular type of work and have operated on some of the most prominent people in America, including some of the best known anchorwomen and anchormen in the world.
