Ditch The Turkey Neck or Pelican Neck with a Neck Lift in NYC

POSTED ON TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 21, 2017 AT 9:29 AM by Dr. Darrick Antell

Commonly referred to as “turkey neck" or "pelican neck," this dropping skin can make you appear to have a double chin and add years to your appearance. New York Plastic Surgeon, Dr. Darrick Antell, can remove this loose skin under your chin, with what he likes to call a “wattlectomy.” Before you consider yourself of the pelicanidae species, consider the procedure that can give you a fresh, younger look!

“Wattlectomy” uses direct excision to cut away fatty tissue. Performed under a local anesthesia with mild sedation, this procedure takes about an hour to perform. Afterwards, sutures remain in place for about a week, but you can return to work within two days, confident with the sleek contour of your new neckline!

This procedure gives excellent results by removing hanging skin under the chin, offering a better  outcome than a traditional neck lift in NYC.  With the wattlectomy, a “Z” plasty is placed approximately at the incision’s midpoint, helping to disguise the scar, which though permanent, fades over time.

Even better, costs of the procedure run less than a traditional neck lift. For an additional fee, a patient can add other procedures at the same time, such as eyelid surgery in NY, or chin implants in NY for a more complete facial rejuvenation.

If you’re tired of wasting time at the gym working on your turkey neck or pelican neck without achieving visible results, give our office a call at 212.988.4040, or request an appointment online. Dr. Antell and his staff look forward to answering any questions you may have.

How to Pick Which Lipomas to Remove on Patients Who Have Hundreds of Lipomas

POSTED ON FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 14, 2014 AT 4:42 PM

It is not unusual to see some patients with lipomas visiting the office with hundreds of lipomas all over the body varying in size and shape. Patients with multiple lipomas often have one question in common for Dr. Antell: "Which lipomas should I have removed?"

Typically, after Dr. Antell assesses all of the probable lipomas, he asks the patients, "Well, which ones bother you the most?" Some patients pick the lipomas they want removed based on location, discomfort, or aesthetics. Other times, patients want to start with just one section of their body per procedure.

Darrick E. Antell, M.D. comes up with a unique plan of care for every patient but typically the number of lipomas Dr. Antell will remove in one procedure will not exceed a dozen; however, this changes depending on the size, depth, and location of each lipoma.

Both Dr. Antell and the patient come up with an amount of time both would be happy in the operating room and pick which lipomas to remove together. After three to six weeks, another procedure can be scheduled to excise more lipomas.

Please call the Office of Dr. Antell at (212) 988-4040 to book an appointment with Dr. Antell to remove your lipoma after a unique plan of care is developed for you.

Dr. Antell's Twins Study Research Featured at the Smithsonian

POSTED ON TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 11, 2014 AT 10:19 AM

The National Museum of Natural History at the Smithsonian Institute recently hosted an exhibit called, “The Human Genome”, celebrating the 10th anniversary of the completion of the Human Genome. There visitors could delve into the microscopic world of genetics that defines the human race. In particular, they learned about the concept that genetics doesn’t necessarily take control over the aging process, a dreadful prospect that we sometimes don’t look forward to in such a mortal world. Instead, genetics shares the spotlight with the effects of the environment and lifestyle choices on the aging process. This groundbreaking discovery is the result of Dr. Darrick E. Antell’s study on identical twins and aging.

After studying numerous identical twins, Dr. Antell verified his findings and concluded that environmental factors and lifestyle choices—specifically smoking, excess sun, and stress (the 3 “S”s) can accelerate the aging process independently of genetic influences. The effects of the 3 “S”s can be seen in photos of identical twins. From first glance, one might think they were photos of before-and-after shots of patients who had facelift procedures performed, but in reality they are identical twins. One twin, for example, would be a nudist who basked in the sun, while her other half stayed indoors most of the time. Take that genetics! We can be hopeful again in slowing down the clock and taking a few matters in our own hands and taking better care of ourselves by not smoking, wearing sunscreen, and finding ways to distress from the evermore pressuring society around us.

The Office of Dr. Darrick E. Antell was thrilled to hear Dr. Antell’s research being featured at the Smithsonian, and were even more excited to hear from the museum staff that Dr. Antell could possibly be the only plastic surgeon to have his work featured at the prestigious institute. Way to go Dr. Antell!

Hug Your Patient- the Importance of Compassion and Courtesy in a Plastic Surgery Practice

POSTED ON FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 07, 2014 AT 2:00 PM

We all know the saying, “the customer is always right”, where we go out of our way to provide the customer the best service and make them feel like royalty in doing so.  This philosophy applies to patient care and is even more important in the world of plastic surgery.

It starts with the initial phone call inquiring about a practice and setting up a consultation appointment.  Many times, there are prospective patients who have never been to a practice like the office of Darrick E. Antell, M.D., F.A.C.S.  At the office, we strive for the gold standard in plastic surgery during pre-, intra-, and post-operative care.  Patients sometimes do not know what to expect and frankly, are very nervous. However, when they hear a cheery voice on the phone, patiently answering any and all questions, prospective patients begin to feel more comfortable and become excited to come into the office.  This is the level of customer service patients can expect at the office of Dr. Darrick E. Antell.

Patients are seen as more than the procedure they would like to have done.  Feeling comfortable is just as important as the treatment of physical symptoms; this philosophy does not stop with the doctor or any other medical clinician.  The whole staff works together to make patients feel like they just stepped into a five-star hotel.

If you are interested in having a consultation with Dr. Antell, contact Scarlett at the office of Dr. Darrick E. Antell to learn more about how the office will work with you to achieve the highest quality of care.  Call (212) 988-4040 and visit the patient testimonials page on our website at https://www.antell-md.comnewyorkplasticsurgeon/testimonials.asp

Accreditation from both the AAAASF and the Joint Commission: A Worthwhile Challenge

POSTED ON FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 07, 2014 AT 1:18 PM

The Office of Dr. Darrick E. Antell may look like what one would expect at a Park Avenue Plastic Surgeon’s office: neat, clean, and beautifully designed.  One may not realize, however, that on the first floor of the 850 Park duplex there is a registered New York State operating room that very closely resembles that of a hospital.

The two most widely recognized accreditation agencies that monitor Office Based Surgery facilities are the American Association for Accreditation of Ambulatory Surgery Facilities (AAAASF) and the Joint Commission; they accredit hospitals across the country.  To have a proper operating room, an office must have accreditation from just one of these agencies.

Dr. Antell’s operating room has both the AAAASF and the Joint Commission accreditation.  This is evidence of how the office seeks to go above and beyond for its patients.

This is a challenge.  Both agencies have hundreds of standards, or rules, which all must be followed in the surgery facility.  In Dr. Antell’s office, the clinical staff studies policies and makes sure that the operating room is held to the highest standards.  We believe that this is what our patients expect and deserve.

Dr. Antell’s operating room has been inspected and surveyed by both agencies in the past year and was found in 100% compliance with all standards at the most recent inspections.  This rare score is the result of meticulous watch and maintenance that do not stop the day after the inspection, but rather last all year round.

Rest assured if you have surgery with Dr. Antell in his double accredited facility, you will be in an operating room that is one of the cleanest and safest in the country.  Please call Dr. Antell’s Office and ask for Annie to talk more about Dr. Antell’s accredited operating room today: (212) 988-4040 and go to the "Our Facility" page of our website to learn more:
