When opting for plastic surgery in New York, many of us find ourselves deep in research trying to determine for ourselves which procedure will be suitable for our needs. Without the proper information however, facts can become mixed with falsehoods. Board certified plastic surgeon in NYC, and Clinical Professor of Surgery at Columbia University, Dr. Darrick Antell has continuously geared his efforts towards helping patients understand their options when it comes to plastic surgery, as well as how to choose the best plastic surgeon in NYC. He continues his dedication in his field by keeping up with the latest techniques and by performing his own original research studies. Dr. Darrick Antell is perhaps best known for his ground breaking research of twins plastic surgery in New York.
World renowned for his studies of aging in identical twins, Dr. Antell’s initial inspiration to study twins came when a patient asked, “How long will my facelift last?” Dr. Antell explained that if she had an identical twin who did not have a facelift, the patient would always look visibly younger than her twin. With this analogy, Dr. Antell went on to question which lifestyle choices could visibly contribute & ultimately accelerate the aging process. Since then, he has performed various studies comparing the effects of sun, smoking, and stress on facial aging in identical twins.
Recently, to further clarify and enhance his research on twins plastic surgery in New York, Dr. Antell focused on evaluating the results of two different facelift techniques, the traditional full incision and the short-scar facelift. Dr. Antell has most recently presented the findings of this study entitled, “Comparison of the Short and Full Incision Facelift on 4 Sets of Identical Twins & 1 Set of Identical Triplets,” at the American Society of Plastic Surgeons meeting in New Orleans this past October. At this meeting, Dr. Antell discussed the differences between the long-term results of these two facelift techniques at one and five years after the surgery date.
In addition to the long awaited similarities and differences between the short scar facelift in New York City and full incision facelift, Dr. Antell stressed the importance of selecting a board certified plastic surgeon. Choosing a board certified plastic surgeon assures that your doctor is qualified to perform surgery. Board certification means your surgeon displays the training, experience, and safety knowledge that is crucial for patients to consider when choosing their doctor.
With over twenty years of experience in plastic surgery in New York, Dr. Antell continues to make major headlines around the globe. His honesty and experience have earned him the trust of his patients and has made him an authority in his field. His work has been published in numerous media outlets, including Good Morning America, The Today Show, The Los Angeles Times, People magazine, Allure magazine, Vogue magazine, and Elle magazine. Check out his last set of twins after their surgery below!

It’s not too late to invigorate your looks for the upcoming holiday season! Improve your most visible signs of aging with a mini facelift in New York City. Wake up your outer youth and surprise family, friends, and even yourself with the help of board certified plastic surgeon in NYC, Dr. Darrick Antell. With more than 20 years of experience, Dr. Antell has helped patients turn back the clock and reintroduce them to a youthful glow.
The mini facelift, also known as the short scar facelift, is particularly valuable for patients in their 40’s and 50’s who want to prolong the signs of aging. The ideal candidate does not have a severe amount of excess skin around their jawline and neck and shows aging predominately in the mid-face.
Compared to the traditional facelift, the mini facelift is a minimally invasive procedure that provides facial rejuvenation with a less noticeable scar. Through a small incision behind the ear, Dr. Antell performs the short scar facelift by tightening the underlying muscles and pulling back the skin of the mid-face. This process smoothes wrinkles and lifts any sagging facial folds. In addition, because the incision is made discretely, the healing site is easily hidden or covered so others will only notice a younger looking you. This scar is not only small, but it will also fade over time.

A Mini facelift is an outpatient procedure, performed under local anesthesia and a sedative. It is often combined with neck liposuction, or chin implants in New York. By combining the mini facelift with neck liposuction, patients can eliminate any jowls or loose neck fat. This procedure ultimately tightens the jawline for a firmer, sculpted look. Furthermore, many patients find that facial and chin implants can help balance and enhance facial features for a fully restored overall appearance.
At the office of Dr. Antell, we welcome patients to our facility for the rejuvenation they need to wow family members for the upcoming holiday seasons. Tank tops and shorts are pushed to the back of closets as the latest fall fashions hit store shelves. If you’re having trouble fitting into the newest fall trends, however, shopping for your favorite sweaters and jeans can prove challenging and frustrating. Bulging areas of fat can not only effect how loose or tight your clothing feels, it can reflect your self-image and often times, affect your self-esteem. For many people, no matter how much they exercise or diet, problem areas of stubborn fat refuse to dissipate. Luckily, a slimmer appearance is possible with Liposuction in New York City. Liposuction sculpts areas of stubborn fat and can allow you to enjoy the newest season’s styles!
One of the most commonly performed procedures in the country is Liposuction. This procedure removes excess fat from localized areas of the body, such as the abdomen, neck, arms, thighs, and love handles. During Liposuction, a small incision is made, and a hollow tube, called a cannula, is inserted into the fat layer. The opposite end of this tube attaches to a machine that creates a strong vacuum, breaking up fat and suctioning it out of the body.
Throughout the procedure, Dr. Antell ensures patient comfort and safety, performing liposuction under local anesthesia paired with a sedative known as “Twilight” to make you feel they are falling asleep naturally and ensure you are kept at ease. Your operation is performed at our state-of-the-art facility with fully accredited and certified operating rooms.
Liposuction in New York City is encouraged for patients who are in decent physical health, but does not replace diet or exercise. Following surgery, patients are expected for a follow up visit a day or two later and again a short week later. Strenuous activity is not recommended for at least ten days, but patients may return to light daily activities directly after surgery.
Along with your new contours and slimmer shape, liposuction can help you fit back into your clothes, comfortably and confidently. Fit into the new you with Liposuction in New York City. Darrick E. Antell M.D., F.A.C. S. and his staff welcome any questions or concerns you may have about your procedure. October is Breast Cancer Awareness month, and at the office of Dr. Antell, we’re celebrating the courageous women who come into our office in search of breast reconstruction in New York. Many times, women feel a lost sense of curves after mastectomy and search for an answer to regain curves. Unfortunately, most do not know the amount of options available after mastectomy. Board Certified plastic surgeon in New York City, Dr. Darrick Antell welcomes breast cancer survivors to his office, to discuss the different options available for breast reconstruction in New York.
Breast Reconstruction is a surgical procedure that creates breasts that are natural looking in size, shape, and appearance. At the office of Dr. Antell, we offer silicone and saline implants with skin expansion or autologous flap.
One of the most rewarding surgical procedures, breast reconstruction is often performed directly following mastectomy, so a patient wakes up with a new breast already in place. Not all women however, choose to have reconstructive surgery directly after their mastectomy. Some patients may even be advised to wait when there are other health concerns, such as obesity, high blood pressure, or smoking. Dr. Antell and our staff understand these apprehensions and want patients to know that we are prepared to provide your with your choice when you are ready, both physically and emotionally.
Dr. Antell and his staff have helped many women regain their shape over the years. This year however, our staff decided to demonstrate the admiration and commitment we have for our patients recovery, and on September 9th, we decided to take part in the Susan G. Komen 5K Race for the Cure in Central Park.
With sponsorship from Dr. Antell, our dedicated team showed up in support of all our patients who have battled breast cancer. We remind women that we offer compassionate care during their recovery, and that regaining a positive self-image is possible with breast reconstruction in New York.
The Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure raises awareness and money for men and women all over the world. Created in 1982, the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation quickly became the world’s largest, most well-known breast cancer awareness establishment. Composed of breast cancer survivors and activists, Komen for the Cure has donated over a billion dollars to finding a cure, becoming the largest source of nonprofit funds in the fight against breast cancer.
Celebrate raising awareness with us this October. If you’d like to help us support finding a cure, visit our donations page. Additionally, feel free to contact Dr. Antell and our staff with any questions and concerns you may have about your breast reconstruction options. Call our office at 212.988.4040 or schedule your appointment online.

With technology easily at our fingertips 24/7, many of us run to the internet when unusual symptoms or markings on our skin develop, hoping to find the cause. When an unusual lump beneath the skin appears, we naturally worry, as the first thought that comes to mind is cancer. However, not all forms of bumps beneath the skin are cancerous. In fact, small nodules can actually be lipomas.
Lipomas, typically, are non-cancerous, firm, grape-like growths. They feel rubbery and when pushed upon, can easily move side to side. Although lipomas are usually harmless, for some they may push down on adjacent nerves, causing pain and discomfort, and even decreased mobility. Lipomas can also cause self-conscious feelings when developed in easily visible areas. In rare cases, some people experience 100’s of Lipomas. When your lipomas provoke physical discomfort or emotional distress consider lipoma removal in New York.
In most cases, patients arrive at Antell-MD with three or more lipomas. Once lipomas appear, they will not go away on their own, requiring lipoma removal in New York. Lipomas are most often removed through an incision, then a dissect, press & squeeze technique, though in rare cases, removal may be performed using liposuction.
Using the press & squeeze technique, Dr. Antell makes a small incision, usually smaller than the lipoma itself, to cut through the skin during removal. A meticulously placed dissolving suture closes the site. For those with very large lipomas, removal may alternatively be performed using liposuction. This technique allows for a small incision, no matter how large the growth.

After Lipoma removal in New York, patients can return to their daily activities immediately. Tissue samples from the lipoma are sent to a lab to ensure they are not cancerous for patient’s safety.
Although not all lumps beneath the skin are cancerous, patients should not ignore them. When you need lipoma removal in New York, trust the plastic surgeon with over 25 years of experience, Dr. Darrick Antell. Contact our office via phone, 212.988.4040, or schedule your appointment online.
